Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

child support

I suspect 2 men couldve fathered my son, the one man i was with at the time signed his birth certificate. Now he is 4 and has been found to be deaf and I need to know who the father is for further genetic testing. Can I have a dna test ordered through child support recovery to have the right father take and help with this responsibiltiy. Can the state get child support from the biological father if the other person has been claiming the child as his? How can I legally get the one party to get dna testing if he refuses?

Re: child support

The man who signed the birth certificate is the father legally speaking. After four years you have little chance of compelling a paternity test, DNA test, or obtaining child support from another man.

Re: child support

Well, the easiest course would be to have the man who signed do a DNA test. If it ain't him, and there are only two choices, it's the other guy.

Your problem is that you've told the government that one person is the father. The other doesn't HAVE to step up at this point, unless you're married to him.
