Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
College expenses........
My ex-wife and I were divorced 11 yr ago in Arizona and I am remarried and both my ex-wife and I are living in Iowa. My ex-wife is telling me that Iowa law states I have to pay 1/3 of our sons college. Is that true even if our divorce was final in Arizona? Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

She's wrong. Unless there's something in the original agreement that says you have to contribute to higher education costs you don't have to. There IS a procedure for establishing a post secondary education subsidy, but Mom doesn't get it. Here's the section.It was put in the Code in 2005. I suggest you review it to see whether it applies to you or whether Arizona has a similar provision.
