Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Confused

My boyfriend was married to his wife in Canada where she is a resident, and is wanting to get a divorce since they have been seperated for over a year. We were wondering if the marriage would still stand here in the USA and if he would legally have to get a divorce in order for us to get married.

Re: Confused

The answer is yes. It doesn't matter where they were married. However, he can probably get an Iowa divorce if he's been a resident for more than a year.
