Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
Getting custody of a pregnant teenager
I am 22 years old. For the past 1 1/2 years I have been raising my 15 year old sister. I have no legal guardianship over her. Our mother agreed to the terms of her living with me until she could get on her feet. She is a meth addict. My sister has been in school the whole time and I am also receiving child support from her father who lives in a group home in a different town. Recently we found out my sister is pregnant and my mom says that she needs to come back and live with her. My mom has no job and no place to live. She lives with her boyfriend who is abusive. My sister DOES NOT want to go back with her. I need someone to help me get custody of my sister so she can stay in school and have the father of her baby around and people who love her and can take care of her. I am currently enrolled in school and I have a house and stable job. I don't want her to have to leave when she's been here so long.
