Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

My daughter has been married about a year but separated about half that time. She is not ready to divorce but wants to buy a house. They are young and have basically no assets. I am trying to find out if she buys a house on her own and a few months down the road they do divorce, does the husband have any claim to the house? surely there would be little or no equity built up before the possible divorce.

Equity is not the issue. Assets and debts acquired during the marriage are subject to equitable distribution There's no such thing as separation, legally speaking in Iowa.
