Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Details on contesting a divorce.

I wanted to find out if a divorce can be contested after it is completed. Or at the very least, can the settlement be contested.

My husband filed for divorce and brought me the papers that signed everything over to him. We purchased a small farm on contract 1 1/2 years ago and took out an equity loan that my parents co-signed. My parents also gave us 10,000.00 for the downpayment. The rest of the downpayment came from my mutual funds, which totaled about 5,000.00.

I have been suffering from extreme, chronic depression and have been unable to work so the payments were made by my husband. The depression recently required a hospitalization and a social worker told me to check into this.

The divorce was final in April 25, 2000 and I was hospitalized on May 25, 2000.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Details on contesting a divorce.

Contact an attorney in your area to discuss the option of having the Marital Settlement Agreement set aside. I am not familiar with the elements in your state that must be satisfied to warrant having the agreement set aside or the time frame required.
