Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

dhs

dhs said my mother could possibly foster my child after they meet with her, during the meeting my mother decided that she wanted my father there also. So we all go outside to wait for my father to come, while we are waiting we are watching people come and go and just so happened to notice a normal looking couple and didnt think anything about it. So my father arrives and we go back to the meeting and dhs says that they will have to speak with my 16 yr old daughter who lives with them because she is spoiled by them not because i lost my parental rights and so until then the new child will have to go to foster parents. I offer to bring a few clothes for the foster parents at the hospital and just so happen to notice that it is the same couple that i noticed at dhs while waiting on my father.

so basically they already had made up their minds that my child was going with these people before they had even said anything to us and lead us to believe that my parents were going to be able to get the child. they snuck behind our backs. can they do that?

Re: dhs

The short answer is yes. DHS gets to make the decision about who is a foster parent. Many times that's based on background information.

People may not like it but that is the way its done.
