Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

divorce

I am representing myself in a divorce, because I cannot afford an attorney. My spouse has an attorney. Today I was the only one that showed up for a prehearing meeting, his attorney said that he didn't get notice. Do I have any rights for recourse. I took a day off of work with no pay and his attorney scheduled the trial for July. Can I file something or do something

Re: divorce

The short answer is no. All you can do is ask the court to reschedule the pre hearing meeting.

Frankly I think you should be extremely wary of representing yourself in a divorce if you are not an attorney and the other person is represented, particularly if there are children or property or debts involved. The inequities in bargaining power and knowledge of the legal system are facially self evident.
