Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Divorce/Mediation Timing

I filed for divorce in Iowa (pro se, no fault) on May 9th. I must have misread and now see that I was supposed to submit financial information and completed mediation already. My spouse was operating under direction from me, and as such, also is late. The divorce is amicable, my husband is also not represented. My question is, will this effect my divorce? Also, will I be fined? If so, about how much? How worried do I need to be? I need to submit the service to my husband that was signed in May. Financial information was supposed to be submitted within 60 days and first individual mediation was supposed to be completed within 45 days. How worried do I need to be? Or will this only cause the divorce to be a bit delayed? Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Divorce/Mediation Timing

You're going to have to submit a request to the court to extend the deadlines. You should also ask the court whether there are any additional costs associated with your lateness. Some judges are strict on deadlines and you could possibnly have your petition dismissed.
