Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Divorcing a Drug Addict

I raised two children on my own for several years bought a house. almost 4 years ago i married someone who said he earned more then i did. 6 months later i realize he's a drug addict who now i know was looking to me for a free ride. everything was so hard to earn i nearly lost everything including my childrens' respect trying to help him before i finally just threw him out. He filed for a divorce and now i have no money or credit to retain an attorney and i ''make too much'' to qualify for legal services. in represneting myself do i need to prove the destruction he caused and would it even matter if i did? can he take any part our home if i can prove he did not contribute to sustain it?

Re: Divorcing a Drug Addict

Assets acquired during the course of the marriage are going to be equitably distributed. If you bought the house during the course of your marriage he owns about half of it. If it was yours before the marriage yopu're in better shape to retain ownership of it.
