Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

What expenses does child support cover

My wife and I are currently working through the divorce process and we have a temporary child custody agreement which states she is the primary care giver and i have the right of reasonable visitation (every other weekend and every wednesday). I give my wife $1,300 per month in child support. My daughter needs a new pair of shoes and I asked my wife to buy them with the child support money i gave her and her answer was ''you still need to buy the kids clothes when they are at your house''. I was of the impression the $1,300 I give her covered my portion of the clothes and many other things. Do I still have an obligation to provide beyond the $1,300? Is my wife required to send adequate clothing when the kids come to my house every other weekend?

Thanks

Re: What expenses does child support cover

The money you pay is for support. Unless the custody agreement states otherwise that's the extent of your obligation. She should be sending adequate clothing to maintain the kids, and I suspect that this is something your attorney should take up at your next hearing. Sending children to stay somewhere without adequately addressing their clothing needs in an effort to extract more money from the noncustodial spouse is likely contrary to the spirit of the custody agreement and needs to be looked into.
