Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

My ex-spouse is required per our decree to cover our child with medical/dental insurance. However, we are currently using an out-of-network orthodontist. Due to this, the insurance company sends my ex the insurance payments directly and in turn, she is to turn them over to the provider (orthodontist). At this time, her lawyer is advising her that she can legally keep these payments which results in my paying more out of pocket to the provider. Is this legal?

I think that would depend on the exact wording of the court order which your dissolution established. As I do not have that in front of me I would suggest that you take this up with the attorney who handled your dissolution and get them involved-perhaps a motion for a rule to show cause might be appropriate. Bear in mind there's no legal/not legal here. There's only contempt or not.
