Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Extent of medical liabilty for ex spouse.

I have been divorced for 6 years. I have joint custody of 1 7 year old son. My child support is current and always has been. My ex was in an accident 3 weeks ago. Late night, drinking, she was a passenger in another parties vehicle. He apearantly is under insured compared to her medical bills. she is on title 19. My question is can I be responsible for any of the medical bills for her? I provide health insurance for my son. She said the stae would use here child support to pay the medical expenses.

Re: Extent of medical liabilty for ex spouse.

the answer is, happily, no. The state will not touch child support to pay her expenses.

On the other hand, there's not much you can do to keep anyone's hands off of it once she cashes the check and deposits it in her account.
