Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
I need to find out if my husband has been married before or if him and his ex are considered common law? Would that make our marriage null and void? She has used his last name for years and has lived in colorado, south dakota, nebraska and iowa. I am not getting anywhere by searching online.

If your husband was previously married and did not obtain a dissolution of marriage it makes your marriage illegal. Whether a person is in a common law marriage or not is a complicated legal and factual problem not readily addressed in this sort of a format. Why won't your husband tell you?
