Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

My Ex girfriend is having a baby.
My ex is having a baby that I know for sure isn't mine. This girl is a minor and got pregnant on accident by another person. They are both in highschool and obviously this child is not expected. The father wants to go to college and the mother also wants to. I am in the Army and am about to deploy to Iraq for 15 months and I would like her to put me as the father when He/She is born. On account I am in a better situation to raise this child. The Army has an excellent health care plan. We all are ok with this but I'm in the dark about what We all need to do in respects to rights. I do know that if I adopt the child the parents lose parental rights. The parents don't want to be out of the childs life altogether. but given age and circumstance they just don't feel ready. If in the future one or both parents want to take the child back. I obviously wouldn't just want to give him/her up. So if the Father did take this to court trying to get full parental rights and a paternity test was done and it was proved he is the father would i just be written out of the childs life?

What you need to do is consult with a family law attorney. If you are not the father you really have no standing.
