Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Guardianship and Conservatorship

I am guardian, conservator and POA for my 89 yr old aunt who has severe Alzheimers. The court in New Mexico ruled this several years ago. Now we moved to Iowa. Do I have to go through and petition Iowa for the same thing or is it good enough that I have the ruling from NM?

Re: Guardianship and Conservatorship

If your guardianship and conservatorship is on the square it should be recognized through full faith and credit. However there are reporting and accounting requirements that may be different from those in New Mexico. It would be best to consult with an attorney to review your G & C for compliance with Iowa law and make what adjustments are necessary with the courts.
