Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
My husband and I are in the middle of a dissolotion of marriage. He was physically and emotionally abusive to me and my children. We have gone through custody and I thought my attorney was working to get me sole custody but now I find out it is joint custody. My attorney seems to talk in circles and I can't get my questions answered. Can you tell me why I didn't get sole custody? Can you also tell me why I am being told I can't accept an out of state job when there is no employment in my vocation locally?

The first thing to do is listen to your attorney because they know more about your case than I do. Second, if you still can't understand your attorney and get an answer to your questions, get yourself another one.
Unless you've got a demonstrated case of actual physical violence/abandonment/drug abuse/alcoholism sole custody is...well...kind of unlikely. Second of all when there is joint custody it's not that easy to just pick up and relocate without being called on the carpet for it.
