Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
My husbands elder sister and himself (as well as other family members) have reported to dcf and cps many times about their mother. The family more specifically the mother is flighty and emotionally unstable the kids are never in one place for more than a year or two and we believe are not getting educated. The current husband is a convicted felon and heavy drug user (and father of the youngest) and we have suspicion that she is using as well. The most recent scare was the husband calling and freaking out that someone was going to murder the kids then both parents would not report this. We are trying to get the help of DCF and the police to assist us in getting custody of the kids. So far the reports have fallen through for the past few years and now we are looking to go to through more in-depth legal channels.

The police cannot help you get custody of the children. Unless and until the department opens a CINA case and the parents fail in their burden, you and the rest of your family don't have any say in the matter.
