Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Iowa Child Support Overpayment

For the past few years, my ex wife wouldn't report payments I made directly to her. Since the payments were not made to the DHS, the state of Iowa said I was behind. They intercepted my federal refund and also took an additional $100/mo through garnishment.

Last week, my exwife filed an affidavit with the court showing I had paid her over $12,000 which hadn't been credited. The state has now credited this to my account. This resulted in an overpayment of about $3,000. What are my options to recover this amount?

You can try and get the CSRU to give it back to you, or alternatively they may show it as a credit balance in your favor. I'd suggest you employ the services of an attorney or at least someone who knows who to talk to at the CSRU to clarify your situation
