Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
I live in Linn County Iowa, and I am filing for divorce, my spouse lives in Waupon WI, and refuses to sign the papers. How long do I have to wait until it doesn't matter if she singes before the divorce becomes final? I called the court house for a time line and they said to ask a lawyer. The spouse left in july of 2009 after an attempted suicide and left behind two minor teen age children, who have no contact with her because they want no part of her. I just want my divorce, how long is the time frame before it's final with out her signature?

The respondent does not have to sign anything-you can proceed without her by service by publication. As far as the response time, there are certain minimum times that must elapse, and you haven't told me whether you've actually initiated a dissolution action yet, or when you did.
If the response is not made in the time allotted that does not mean the dissolution is self executing-you would have to file a motion for default.
