Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Lock Out w/Consultations with Divorce Attorney?

If one spouse consults with and interviews several divorce attorneys before hiring one, can the second spouse use one of his previously interviewed and consulted attorneys? It seems that my husband has made and paid for initial consulations with an entire gammat of ''excellent'' attorneys in my area by conducting interview with at least 6 of them. It seems he has locked me out from these attorneys because it is a breech of ethics since they've already consulted with him. We live in Iowa.

If your spouse has actually retained these attorneys then yes, they cannot represent you. On the other hand if he has not, then they can represent you. I think they're being cautious about potential conflicts of interest. You may have to go outside your county.
