Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
mother right to protect name of father under oath
had an affair 15yrs. ago. found out the child is most likely mine thru dna test, no name given.so the mother & i are only ones that know. mother lived with (not wed) to another for over 25 years. he is mentally abusive and locked/kicked she and child out--nothing has ever been said about child not being his. mother hires attorney to represent her and get some material goods from homw and also to keep him away from child. told attorney of the test but did not name names. if mother were on the stand over this case and the attorney for the live in man asked if she had a dna test done, she would i suspect have to say yes. if they asked who the father was would she have to name a name? would they have a right to ask these questions in a case like this? would her attorney be able to object to this line of questioning? would they be able to point the live in to have his own paternity test done to find out if he is or isn't the legal father.

In this particular case there is already an attorney. You should be able to share your confidences with your attorney and if you cannot it is time to hire another one.
You should be asking your attorney these questions.
