Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
Who gets what in a non-marriage break up?
I have recently broken up with my significant other of 2.5 years. We were not married. He is claiming the furniture I bought was a ''gift'' to him and that I may not take it out of the house. Is there a law which determines who gets what when it comes to personal property? The items in question are over $500 in value. Checks from my personal account were written for the items. He is not disputing that I alone paid for the items, he is claiming I gave them to him as a gift.

Since you were not married there is nothing you can rely on to protect any rights you may have in any of the property in question, beyond filing suit for it.
