Obligations under Legal Seperation

Does a Legal Seperation before divorce seperate or excuse me from my wife's financial obligations that she incurs on her own like if she got a credit card and defaulted on the payments would it affect me after a legal seperation??

There is no such thing as a 'legal separation' in Iowa. You're legally responsible for any debts incurred until your decree becomes final.
