Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
I already sent this question once, but do not understand the response. Maybe I should have been more clear. I am divorced and have a college aged daughter. We do not have a formal post secondary order, but have verbally agreed to what each party will contribute to my daughter's education. Last year she attended a state university and we negotiated each party's financial responsibilty. This year, she is staying home with me and attending the local community college. My ex, daughter, and I have split evenly the cost of tuition and books. There is an issue with room and board. Since she is living at home with me (herMom), my ex does not think he should have to contribute to her room and board. I feel that he should be responsible since I am paying 100% of it. Should I have gone to court and got a formal order for secondary support? Can I request he pay 1/3 of her room and board? or is it based on our income? If I go to court, do I have a chance of getting him to help pay with this?

You need a court order to do what you want to do, if the person does not want to undertake it.
