Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I have been raising a 3 &5 year old girls since the youngest was three months old ,the mother had very little contact with the girls. Now the mother has come and wants too try and raise them .Is there any thing we can do to stop her from taking them

Are you the children's legal guardian or do you have some sort of legal standing? If not, her rights are better than any you may have.
