If you are representing yourself in a divorce and your husband has you served with a petition for dissolution of marriage and i need to file a response within 20 days can i file a ''response to petition for dissolution of marriage''. or is there a website i can go to download the forms (free forms)? I need any information i can get, i am a stay at home mom and dont have enough money for a retainer to hire my own attorney so i am forced to do this myself. If you know of any agencies that can help me please let me know. Any help is appreciated. THANKS!!!

An answer to a petition for dissolution is answered in the same way as any other civil action. If there is no property or children involved one would probably do OK filing a pro se answer but in your case I strongly recommend an attorney. If your income is limited you may obtain assistance from the Legal Aid Society, the clinics that are run by the two Iowa law schools, or perhaps an attorney in your county would agree to represent you pro bono. You may contact your county bar association and ask for assistance with this.

If you are determined to do it yourself go to one of the law schools and get a form from Iowa Pleading and Practice.
