Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

Different State Visitation and Cost

My ex lives in IA with my child, I live in KS. To get visitation would it be better to have a lawyer in IA or KS? And what are the filing fees to do it myself?

Re: Different State Visitation and Cost

I don't know what fees, if any, might be required in the State of IA. From your inquiry, I assume that the original court orders were issued in IA and your children reside there. With that being true, you should contact counsel in the State of IA to file there; KS would not accept jurisdiction, but would transfer any such Petition to the IA jurisdiction. I never recommend that a parent attempt a domestic action w/o legal counsel. . .with children's welfare at issue, this is not a place to economize. Good luck.
