how can i avoid getting supened to court to be asked questions i know nothing about?

You can challenge a subpoena. Go into the court and ask to have the subpoena quashed.
You'll probably not get anywhere if it's for a grand jury.
Even if it's the government is hauling you in, chances are they will tell you why and give you the chance to say what you known and don't know. They may also work with you, if it's just the timing of the hearing that's a problem.
If it's a civil case, ask if you can have your deposition taken instead. At that time, the lawyers can quickly estabilsh what you know and what you don't.
