Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
Unsure how to handle this..
Hello, I am worried about being sued as my ex-boyfriend who I lived with for 2 1/2 years and now have a protective order against apparently told his mother who emailed me from her residence in New Jersey, that I kept some of his family's heirlooms. The items were a gold coin necklace and two gold bands (wedding rings). While still living with me, he sold the chain and coin pendent at a pawn shop. Still short money (from gambling) he had me take the wedding sets to the same pawn shop which I did so and let him authorize it once the value was determined. Apparently he didn't want to tell his mother that he sold the items to pay monthly bills, instead
he told her that I never gave them to him when he came to get his things. Because of the protective order I don't know how to explain to her (by email) that I don't have the items without breaking the protective order (3rd party). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The protective order is against him, is it not? Tell her you don't have them and then forget about it.If she wants to sue you she will no matter what you do so don't worry about it. It does sound like you may be on the hook for the wedding set because you pawned them. Why not redeem the merch and make the old lady happy?
