Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
Visitation rights for father
I have a question on visitation. No where in my divorce decree is there any stipulation about visitation. All it says is, ''Respondent shall have sole custody of the minor child of this marriage and Respondent shall have the primary resonsibility for physical care of the child'' Does this mean I do not get visitation? Or is exclusion of any guidelines still means that I have visitation rights? Also, my ex had, thru email consented to her husband to adopt our child, I filed the paper work and now she said she wont go through it until I pay 10,000 for the adoption fees. Step parent adoption fees are not that high, is there any legal basis for me to get her to pay me back for the time and money spent that I did in filing? Thank you.

What the order means is that you have to go to court to amend it to provide for visitation.
With respect to adoption, I think you've done enough. If she and her new husband want to adopt the child it's on them. She's got no basis asking you to buy your way out of an unwanted parentage. Without knowing more about the situation I could not offer an opinion farther than this.
