Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
My wife and I are getting a divorce. I am not the biological or adoptive father of her child but I have been her 'Dad' since the day the child was born. In Iowa, is there any way for a person in my situation to go to court for visitation?

As part of the dissolution there will be a custody and support order, but your attorney can file a motion on temporary matters to preserve your rights. Have you ever done a declaration of paternity? Is your name on the birth certificate? Has your wife received child support or ever taken any money from the state, so much as a food stamp one time? There could be a CSRU case going against biodad and he may be named therein. Any way you slice it spend the money to hire an attorney.
