Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
My wife and I are getting a divorce. She lives in Kansas and I live in Iowa. I have 2 questions. Is Iowa an Alimony state? If not, when I file in Iowa will I have to pay Alimony because she lives in Kansas which is an Alimony state?
Thanks

You can be ordered to pay alimony in Iowa but it is generally limited. A lot depends on the facts and circumstances of the marriage but in general it is awarded when there's a need for one spouse or the other to undertake training to become self supporting. The state doesn't like one person cutting another loose who will end up as a charge on the public purse.
