Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa
My wife has filed here in iowa and the only grounds are that there is a breakdown in the marriage and it cannot be preserved. Under both Iowa code 598.5 and 598.17 it states that the decree can be issued when the court is satisfied from the evidence. The latter of the two staes it must be "competent evidence". What evidence can she use and can i introduce my own evidence and witnesses to contest it?

That's about the only grounds for dissolution these days since fault divorce was done away with. An affidavit to that effect or testimony is usually sufficient. You can present testimony although I do not know why you would want to contest a dissolution. It would not put you in any better position.
