Legal Question in Medical Leave in Iowa

if my son breaks his hand and is admitted to the hospital for a "few" days, what are my options for time off work?

You could ask for unpaid time off. If you're a union member ask your union representative. Otherwise there is no law that I'm aware of allowing you some mechanism to force your employer to allow time off.
