Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

Abandonment

My girlfriend and I have lived together for about 3 years. She moved out about 6 weeks ago and left her keys and belongings behind. I am the only one on the lease of the house I'm renting. When is it considered abandonment on her part for the rest of her stuff. She called about 3 weeks ago saying she was coming to get it, but she has not showed up. What do I do and how much time do I have to give her to get it before its considered abandonment, and the stuff just stays here. We live in Iowa

Re: Abandonment

In my experience these situations are never as simple as listening to one side's view of the facts and Judges will want to listen to each point of view. What have you done to contact her to return her belongings? Have you in any way hindered her in retrieving those belongings? Do you know her address or telephone number? Do you know the contact information for her relatives and what have you done to locate her and set up a time/date when the belongings can be given to her? Why not just drop them off at her parent's home? You get my drift.
