Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

Entering a home without permission

I had a friend staying with me and things went sour. She moved out and left her things. She wants to get her stuff but I would rather pack for her so nothing of mine is stolen. She said she is bringing the police. Is it legal for her to enter my home without my permission if her things are inside?

No it isn't. I doubt the police would get involved but if they do you have several choices. One you can allow her in and watch that she takes only her things; why not pack them up ahead of time and tell the officers you've packed her things and point them out. Put them in one corner of a room so they are separate from your possessions. Two, you could pack them up, ask her what day she is available and then arrange to meet her there, one-half hour ahead of time putting her things outside for her to take. And three change the locks on the apartment or house door and make arrangements as set out above.
