Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

I took in a homeless man and gave him place to live for the last three years paid him alittle money to help at my place of buisness and didnt charge him rent just let him live here free. may 12th 2010 he went off the deep end and threatened myself and staffcoming after me with a knife i didnt press charges when the police came i justed wanted him to go get help aat the mental ward which they took him there he was released and escorted here by police to get what ever he could carry out that day and told he has to contact police to come and get the rest of things which we have pallatized and have been holding we have no contact for him he lives in the streets as far as we know we tried to ask his brother where he was and to pass message to get things. know what we need to know is legally can we get rid of his stuff since he refuses this far to contact us or arrange to pick up???? please any help would be greatly apreciated. cindy

Rent a storage locker for a month prepaid, move the property to it, give the key to his brother and then tell him it's not your problem anymore.
