Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

I have items in my garage left by someone who was suppose to return to get them and has not. It has been since August of 2010 that they were left there. With no contact with them for the past 5/6 months. They are still in another state since they left. How long do I need to keep these things before I can consider them abandon and remove them!

Rent a storage locker for a month. Move the stuff in and send them the key and tell them it's their problem.
