Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

Small Claims Court ?

I am presently suing for a $5000.00, unpaid loan, the loan was made in two parts a check for 1000 and a chech for 4000. since small claims in Iowa (state of borrower) small claims limit to 5000, would it be better to file two suits, one foe 1g and one for4g? My thinking is it may give the judge lattitude to award a larger settlment. Also my banker says in oregon you can sue for three times the amount of a bounced check, is that federal or state? Is Iowa the same? I ask because I have been promised a check for settlement but fear it will bounce. Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

It's been a while since I've reviewed the applicable statutes and would not be willing to guess. Iowa has similar provisions for bounced checks. Go to the library, take out the Iowa Code and do some reading. If you want to play lawyer then act like one. Do the lawyer's preliminary work.
