Legal Question in Immigration Law in Iowa

Error on Asylum apllication

Please help with my complcated case.I am international student finishing classes dec 2006.Did not know that my f-1 status was terminated till I went to get an I-20 to apply for OPT.I was told my status was terminated september 2005.This I believe is wronful termination because I asked for permission to extend my graduation date because I had finished too early and I wanted to take professional exams.

The problem is I put on my application that I was in staus and I thought the one year rule exeption applied for me.What shoul I do?Can my school rep put me back in status or acknowledge the mistake so I can show to Immigration Officer? What is my exeption argument now.I can use country change conditions but did not mention it on the application.

Thank you in advance for responding.

Re: Error on Asylum apllication

You may ask the school to issue you a new I-20 and recommend reinstatement of your student status. You would then file for reinstatement with the Immigration Service.

If you require legal representation, you may contact our office.
