Legal Question in Insurance Law in Iowa

2 wks ago the daughter of an ex boyfriend showed up on my doorstep as I was leaving for work and said that her dad, that passed away, named me as beneficiary on his life insurance. I knew nothing about this. She asked me to go to the bank with her and sign off my rights to this money, which I did, only because I was afraid not to. I went thru alot of mental anguish and some property damage from the ex's son and daughter when we together and after we broke up. I live alone now and work 60 hrs a week, I am 59 yrs old, and was afraid not to agree to this for fear what might happen if I didn't. How can the insurance company give out my name to these people before they even contacted me about this? They don't know what I went thru getting out of this relationship and that I lived in fear for sometime after we broke up? I was so shook up when she showed up that I didn't even get any details about this policy, I know this wasn't very smart on my part, but if you knew the whole story, you would understand. Is there anything that I can do about this or about the insurance company giving out my name like that instead of contacting me? Thanks for your time.

Well, if you were a beneficiary you were entitled to whatever the policy was worth. The insurance company probably told the estate to notify the beneficiaries. You've got no control over that.

Signing away your right to get compensation for all this person put you through was very ill advised.
