Legal Question in Insurance Law in Iowa
Collegate Sport Insurance Coverage
I play a collegate sport in a club setting. My school has decided to drop accident/injury insurance coverage on it's players, in what I understand all sports. I am wondering if it is legal for them to do so. They are making it manditory for individuals to acquire their own private insurance and prove that they are covered prior to playing a game. It was suggested that the school would reimburse 50% of the premium to the individual. It doesn't seem right to me for them to do this. Is this legal??

Re: Collegate Sport Insurance Coverage
In general, unless the school is obligated to provide insurance, the fact that it did once does not mean that it has to continually do so. It is only accidental injury insurance, so it is already probably covered under your own health insurance. Check that coverage, since I am sure you sign a release/waiver of liability before you are able to play.
