Legal Question in Insurance Law in Iowa

i m ailed in my insurance payment on the 1st on the 17th i hit a deer when i called it in they said i was in defalt of my insurance i checked the bank and the check hadnt cleared so i took the money out ane paid my agent cash....i didnt stop payment on the check on the 21st cause they told me it wasnt there then they said i was paid up for an extra month...so they did recieve my check and they said they didnt get it til the 20th.....well i called them and they said i wasnt covered they didnt keep the envolope and it went to a lock box then from the lock box in pa they had sent it to illinois.....the insurance co is in wisconsin.....so do i have a case...to sue them for them not wanting to pay my claim....i believe they had my check the whole time....and they should cover me.... my insurance wasnt due til the 8th i mailed it on the 1st...they said they didnt get it til the 20th although they had to has it before the 17th the date of my accident.
