Legal Question in Insurance Law in Iowa
I am presently retired on disability. I retired at age 62 with end-stage renal disease, and I am currently 64, waiting for a kidney donar. I paid for long-term disability all of the years I worked. My disability insurance company is now telling me that if I don't file for my retirement within the nexzt month, they are going to discontinue my disability payments. Earlier I was told by this same company that if I ever receive any other money, I need to tell them because they then subtract that amount from what they are paying me. Clearly, I understand why they want me to apply for my retirement, but there are also stipulations in my retirement plan that could financially benefit my family members (after my death) if I wait to apply. My question is, can my insurance company legally tell me that they will cut off my disability payments if I don't file for my retirement now?

That's a complicated fact pattern. You should consult with an attorney who practices in the field and can analyse the language of the relevant documents.
