Teenager viewing adult material on the internet

I had a teenager go on an adult web site and view adult material. I was charged for this by another company other then my phone company. Do I have to pay this bill? Is there not some kind of law that childeren under 18 can not view this kind of material?

Re: Teenager viewing adult material on the internet

I suggest you contest the charges with your credit card company, which must have been charged. When you say you "had" the teenager use an adult website, I take it you do not mean you instructed him or her to do so, as if you did then you are most certainly responsible for the charges. I understand you to mean you unexpectedly discovered that some teenager (hopefully not your own) ran up charges on a porn site. You did not comment on how the teenager got your credit card, and that might affect the outcome. I would expect that your credit card company would be more than happy to reverse charges from a pornographer and that the pornographer would just write off that account receivable as a loss without wasting much of their time trying to collect, unless of course the charges are unusually high or continued for a long period to the point that you sknew or should have known of them.

I am not an Iowa lawyer, but am a Missouri lawyer, so this is not legal advice and there is no attorney client privilege applicable to disclosures you make to me (unless you are a paying client of mine.) So, you may want to check with your local prosecuting attorney to see if he or she will give you a simple confirming answer. When doing so, remember the prosecuting attorney might use your remarks against both you and the teenager so be very hypothetical in your questions and remarks to the Prosecuting Attorney.
