Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
My boyfriend was unable to take vacation, his birthday or his personal day because the business he works for was short staffed and needed him to work. He was granted vacation 4 or 5 times and then at the last minute they denied him. On the last payday of this year he was docked 24 hours on his time off allowance: 12 hours for his birthday and 12 hours for his personal day. They told him that they would let him carry over his vacation this year, but because the birthday/personal day was a benefit, they could dock his hours available and not pay him for those hours. Is that correct?

That seems like a question that's got to be resolved between your boyfriend, the company, and the office of the labor commissioner. I suggest you contact them.
