Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
Denial of Unemployment
In March, I was fired from my job. 6 months ago, I was put on some medication to help me sleep. I am bipolar, was recovering from a burn, and was struggling. When I returned to work 3 weeks later, I struggled to get up in time for work & was late a few times. The employer changed my shift by an hour and I was written up. Understandable. Unfortunately, it happened again and eventually was let go. I had by this time removed myself from this medication, but it was too late. Unemployment denied me because it was my fault. How is the medication affecting my sleep patterns my fault?? I didn't appeal unfortunately as I had no funds to hire someone. Was I wrong to not appeal? What else should I have done?? Thank you!

Re: Denial of Unemployment
DOn't know IA law, but in MN the employer must show "misconduct", which doesn't sound like your situation at all.
You may want to check with IA employment atty, but if appeal deadline is past, it's probably moot.
