Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
My employer told us we can not carry over more than 40 hours of PTO this year. Anything over 40 hours you just loose. We accrue our PTO so many hours per month worked. I would just like to know if that is legal since it is an earned benefit. There has been alot of debate and just want ot know. Thanks

Unless you have a contract of employment or are covered under a collective bargaining agreement employment is at will-which means you can be terminated for any reason, good reason or no reason at all. That means unless it is a matter of workplace discrimination-age, gender, race etc etc that violates federal law the employer can pretty much make up any rule they want to. Of course, your remedy is to quit. Isn't living in a right to work state fun?
