Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
I failed a drug test at work and after a short meeting with the head of HR was told that I still had a job and was to report to work after a 3 day suspension. On the last day of my suspension I received a letter in the mail saying that I no longer had a job. I am now being denied unemployment. I have appealed the decision and was wondering if I have a good case against them seeing that they told me I still had a job and did nothing during my 3 day suspension that would result in being fired.

I don't practice in the employment law field but I can tell you that Iowa is a right to work state which means unless you have a contract of employment or are covered by a collective bargaining agreement you can be terminated for any reason, good reason or no reason at all. On the other hand they did tell you one thing and then went and did another. I think that's an argument that you can make.
